PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
